Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Has anyone been following this series? People are calling it one of the best anime of all time. I haven't seen it yet, I've been busy watching a bunch of classic stuff that I never got around to like Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. lol

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Ooooh, I've watched most of it. Actually, I need to watch the last few episodes, thanks for reminding me!
It is TOTALLY epic, I am serious. The animation is awesome, the storyline is mind-boggling, it's just....AAAAGH so awesome! Although I wouldn't call it the best anime of all time, it IS really really awesome.

Ah but you haven't seen the ending yet.Joyfulldreams wrote:Although I wouldn't call it the best anime of all time, it IS really really awesome.
Everyone is saying that the end is the best part. So just be open about your opinion on it until you finish it.
I'll get to watching it very soon.

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
I'm not denying that FMA is awesome! And the ending will probably be epic. But, really, I prefer animes that are a bit...softer, but have awesome points to them. I can't help it. XD Hell, some of my favorite animes are Princess Tutu, Ouran High School Host Club, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Detective Conan.
Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
I've read the first 21 volumes of the manga that I've collected over the years. It's amazing.
And everything should have awesome points to it no matter what it is. lol
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "softer, but have awesome points to them". You mean soft as in not heavy? Like a contrast between Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop?Joyfulldreams wrote:I'm not denying that FMA is awesome! And the ending will probably be epic. I love this show. I hated the first anime but I love brotherhood. Just like how I hate the pokemon anime and love the manga. You could say a theme of something so bad can be good if used differently:)

At first I watched Inuyasha, Card Captor Sakura, Negima!?, then FMA, and finally Ouran High School Host Club ) >

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
bones productions ftw! (fma, fma brotherhood, ouran, soul eater etc), that studio has some amazing directors>W< my friend hated the first anime of fma but it was got me into the series in the first place, can't say I hate it (i really liked it actually), but brotherhood is a lot more epic (especially towards the later parts). Though, not sure if anyone knew, but soul eater and ouran had the same director, which is why the bouncy animation style used in the show is so similarXDD (and in which both me and my friend loved, it's like a fusion between anime and cartoon>W<)

One of the most notable works by Bones Studio is Wolf's Rain, I just finished that show 2 weeks ago, the ending was so beautiful and poetic, I couldn't hold back the tears. It's a very sad show.

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
matter of tastes I guess, soul eater was a pretty well balanced show to me (the animation is really well done too, even for a weekly anime production). A favorite for those who adore the classic shounen, not particularly deep yes. But has it own cool quirks and character designs and concept. The show was also executed really well in my opinion. Judging from what you're saying, your tastes of anime would be those with deep concept and ideas such as fma, evangelion etc. Which I love as well but I won't go so far as to diss a show such as soul eater. Maybe you could give durarara!! a try too, it gets pretty epic especially after the first 10 episodes. anime aside, one piece from the big three is also a good read (though it took me 6 full days to catch up with the manga...) It uses a simple seed idea but at the same time there is a deeper meaning behind almost every arc during their journey (it's like, the first manga that really made me cry, though I almost cried at when hughes died in fma too) I won't recommend watching the anime for one piece much because to me toei ruined quite a bit when it comes to animation quality and such... but the movies are another thing.
haven't checked out wolf's rain though, so I won't say anything about itXD

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
In my opinion, the plot and the characters are the most important thing in any screenplay or novel. Everything else is important too, such as the art direction, character designs, and/or music, if any of those things are present in the work. But not as important as the fact that the story MUST be realistic, otherwise it's an absolute waste of time.Aki11 wrote:Judging from what you're saying, your tastes of anime would be those with deep concept and ideas such as fma, evangelion etc. Which I love as well but I won't go so far as to diss a show such as soul eater.
To further enforce my reasoning for the criticism, take note of this scene from the movie Adaptation:
The scene is a tad vulgar, just a warning...
I'm only doing this to avoid misunderstandings. I watched the first 6 episodes of Soul Eater and saw no development in my analysis. The characters would notice their flaws or problems, and they would ask themselves about them, but would they change? Nope.
Needless to say, the artwork in that show is wonderful, very easy on the eyes. But the entire show as a whole is completely formulaic, and I despise formulaic shows with a passion. Hence, I dislike Naruto, and Bleach, and ESPECIALLY Blood +.

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
I liked Soul Eater a lot because the characters were hilarious and their interactions were interesting. XD Plus, the animation was beautiful. But when you think down to it, yes, the format is a bit...meh, but overall it's a pretty good show with a strong fanbase.
I've seen some of Wolf's Rain. I watched some of it dubbed when I was littler and still watched TV, too (when I had no idea what anime reall was. XD) I have to say, what I saw of it was definitely heartbreaking. 0o Rather bizzar too.
And I can totally understand wanting a good solid and deep story and characters and such, and when those animes come around I love them. But I also appreciate the non-perfect ones, the funny and qwerky ones, and to tell you the truth, I like animes with high re-watch value. Where you can go back and watch the whole thing over and over again and be just as entertained as you were the first time you watched it (Ouran!!), or even MORE entertained. Because to me, the good part about animes like FMA and Durarara is the suspense, and once you've already seen it, it isn't as good the second time around.
And that video is really cool, I like it. ;3
I don't like Naruto either, but I thought Bleach was pretty good in the beginning. The characters were funny, the music was really interesting, and the concept was cool, but it dragged on too long and became naruto-fied. XD

Cowboy Bebop
Honey & Clover
ToraDora!
Gunbuster
and Gankutsuou
to name a few.
Wolf's Rain is an example of a show that isn't meant to be watched more than once.
Also, yes, Bleach was good at first.

Seen Gurran Lagann. SO FUNNY and intense. XDD Toradora is also awesome, amazing animation. Like, beautiful. I am ashamed to say I haven't taken the time to watch all of Cowboy Bebop from start to finish, but what I have seen of it is awesome.
I like too many animes. XD The list of animes I have seen and watched is realllyyyy long, and I'm intending to make sure I add all of the classic animes into the list too.
Have any of you guys seen the Black Rock Shooter OVA? Probably only Aki and I know what that is, BUT, it was awesome...and a bit confusing....0o....(NOW THAT THEY'VE DONE BLACK ROCK SHOOTER THEY ARE OBLIGATED TO MAKE A MOVIE FOR DAUGHTER OF EVIL GAAAAH)

I haven't seen a lot of anime, I've only watched highly recommended masterpieces, and I'm still not done knocking them off the list.
If classic is what you want, I recommend downloading Legend of the Galactic Heroes, it's a 1988 anime. It's an OVA series, and a very long one.
No I haven't seen BRS yet, I was rather unenthusiastic to see that it's yet another anime that takes place in a school. It gets EXTREMELY old ever a while. I mean seriously. But it's cool and all. Not every day a drawing inspires an entire franchise. lol

Well the main reasons I find it bad because it had so many fillers and then the ending was rushed in a handful of episodes. Plus the homunculi philosophy seemed like it was only playing around. I mean no matter how much you hit them, there is no way to kill them. Ed just plays around a bit by fighting then SOMEHOW the original remains of the homonculus comes into the picture and then battle over. The most hated example of that I can think of is King Bradley. Plus all the other homonculi killed each other and Al became a male damsel in distress instead of a second title character. Hoenheim was lamer than on the second anime.
On the good side, I like them for creating a homonculi that looks like trisha, although sloth was not such a good name. I like how their leader was dante which was patterned after the seven sins and I like how it was a female main antagonist for once. Though I would add/change those things I stated above on the second anime if possible.

There was a Sloth in the manga too, didn't look like a girl though, his appearance was more akin to the Incredible Hulk. lolvideofan9864 wrote:

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
I just finished watching FMA Brotherhood. It was INDEED FREAKING AWESOME. Gah, which anime to watch now...Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, more of shugo chara, Kuroshitsuji, finish watching Mai-HiME finally...?
Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
@HamsterPants
I hate the manga sloth precisely because he looks like that. Plus his powers are too common. But the anime sloth being a woman doesn't fit either (I mean the sin of sloth doesn't fit a girl) but on the manga I feel annoyed cause Lust died too early and the homonculus need another female touch.
@Joyfulldreams
I agree with you there:) But I would have wished Al to get some fighting on his regular body. Yes he was very malnourished but there was a way out of that if the creator really wanted it. Though what happened to Pride and Wrath annoyed me. They were my most fav but they were half dead on their last battle. I wish Wrath regenerates and Pride was never weakened. (I was expecting more like pride enveloping himself in his shadow to create a powerful form then he transmutes explosions with Kimblee's alchemy and had extra power with glutonny, Kimblee, and his own philosopher stones)

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
I have to admit I'm rather fond of the first FMA here. I know it's not like the manga and is rather flawed... but I'm a sucker for the artwork... X//3 (I have to admit the sin of Sloth doesn't really suit the anime version... But then again... it's difficult to make a scary 'slothful' villain ;>>)
I have yet to watch the second or read the mange, but judging by what you're all saying, I'm gonna like both~ XD
Wolves rain... 'sigh' I love dark anime but honestly, I much prefer anime that has dark themes but presents them in a childlike way. Slayers is a good example of a parody/actual story for one, and (the un-dubed version) of Card Captor Sakura will probably be a fave of mine for the rest of my life~ <3
For deep-but-child-like plot I also have to recomend Princess Tutu~ That is the only anime I've ever seen where character manage to kick butt while doing ballet! ...the stage lights that appear out of nowhere every so often can be annoying though... ^^;
Wolves rain was beautiful but just too tragic for me to really watch ever again... Mai-HiME is pretty rewatchble~ Lots of twists and turns though the ending might be a little predictible for anyone who watched a lot of this type of anime before~
And ummm... Random question here:
Has anyone here other than me seen 'Fanal Fantasy Unlimited' ? I just asking because very few people I mention it to seem to know what I'm talking about. (Which isn't really all that unusual...)
...
(Too many good anime... I better stop babbling now or else I'm never going to.)
