Opening and Ending Theme Song Guidelines

Please read ALL of these guidelines before posting your audition!

So, presumably you want to try out for singing our ending and opening theme songs. Great! These guidelines provide lyrics to the songs, answers to uploading questions, tips on how to sing the songs, and also the best attempts from each one that you'll have to hurdle over. If you have any questions about singing or just VA in general, please ask Kamuro (a vice-head, but she may not reply as she is a very lazy person), dirksies (the head as well as a critic), whatthechuck3 (another vice-head), or the VA critics Kazaazz, Alexie82818 and FaisLittleWhiteRaven.

Make sure you read the rules before posting though, cause if you break any of them, you're in trouble with whichever mod or admin finds you first.

Also, please only sing to the songs we have provided. Please DON'T sing to any other song in order to say whether you can sing or not. If you do it will be considered spam and advertising and thus deleted.

And please note that even if your audition is accepted, you won't be cast as the singer for the opening/ending right away.

Uploading and quality requirements
Using any sort of audio mixing, recording and editing software studio is fine as long it supports .mp3 uploads. The one which will suit your needs the most and is completely free though is Audacity, which can be downloaded here.

So once you have recorded your take to the best of your ability, mix your singing with the song, of which links are provided for in their areas of these guidelines. Then all you have to do is upload it to a site which supports .mp3 uploads, like Tindeck, 4shared or Youtube and give us the link to it in your audition. Remember that you can only create ONE audition topic. And as for the title, just say "Opening and/or Ending Theme Song Audition" in the title or something along those lines. If you are also hoping to do Voice Acting and auditioned for that too, then put everything you've done in that one topic and do not create another for your singing.

Example: In the title "Blaine, Bill, Oak, Pokemon and Opening Audition." and in the Description the name of the Pokemon, "The Pokemon are Bulbasaur and Machoke."

The quality of the sound you record your audition in however, will greatly affect whether you're accepted or not too. Any audition you make which has sound quality where we can't clearly hear what you're singing will automatically mean you're not accepted until you can get a better microphone/pop filter (a pop filter is noise protection filter for mics which stop 'popping sounds' or harsh sounds) If it's too serious, the VA critics will refuse to give feedback until it's better. Therefore, we strongly advise that you don't audition unless you have a sufficient quality of sound where we can hear you properly.

Make sure as well that before you post, that you are not making the same mistakes that other auditionees are making in their auditions. It may be in your best interest to research a little and listen to other people's auditions and see if you can improve yourself depending on the replies of the critics. Therefore, it stands to reason that if you look at the accepted auditions, you can get a good grasp of how to get in. Remember you've got to help the critics as much as they're trying to help you.

Speaking of, when the critics leave long posts of critque for you, please try and reply to their antics since they spent their time trying to make you better at VA. So when creating your post, please make sure that the box with "Notify me when a reply is posted" IS TICKED. That way you'll receive a notification by email that you got a reply, and you'll be able to get back to them without forgetting. After all, if we love your voice, we don't want you to leave!


The Dreaded Pending Auditions
Once we give feedback, obviously we'll be expecting some sort of reply from you in the form of redos. If however that doesn't happen within one month, mods will move your audition to this thread to help keep us organized. Don't worry, all you have to do to get it out is edit your redos into the first post of your thread and then do a quick post to make the thread officially updated to all eyes and the mods will move it back so we can dish Round 2 of critiques.

Please only let mods and the auditionee post within the audition in question while it's in pending however, otherwise the threads will get cluttered (again). Don't worry, we can handle it. =) Any and all may comment when it's out of pending though okay~?


The Opening
Here is the original version, and the updated version and the updated updated version (and it still isn't finished!). You can download any version with the same link as well.

Now in order to sing to the song, the guitar/piano will indicate a syllable of the song and tell you when to sing. Follow the lyrics and it should work out. Note that in the original version, the melody is the clearest and easiest to hear as the guitar is playing it. There are currently four sets of lyrics, so just take your pick at whatever takes your fancy. If you are having trouble putting words to the beat though, just PM whoever wrote the lyrics and they'll be more than happy to help.

The Ending
Here it is, our ending with the download option in the same link! It still needs fine-tuning, but otherwise it's going to stay largely the same. We also have two sets of lyrics, so take your pick!

In order to actually sing the song though, it's a lot harder to figure out where the lyrics go. There is a right-hand melody played by the piano though that does follow the syllables, but it's harder to make out than in the opening. Your best bet is to listen to some attempts to get your footing.

Getting accepted
Please remember that even if your audition is accepted, you won't be cast as the singer for the opening/ending right away. You are just auditioning so that we know you can sing, and then we'll decide whether you sing the opening/ending later, probably when the songs are actually finished.
