Mood of the anime Empty Mood of the anime

Post by john Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:39 am

I feel that Pokespe often resemble another anime whenever I read the manga. In terms of tone, storyline and maturity of the series, I think that it resemble the first season of the Digimon anime the most, AKA digimon adventures.

I'm not talking about the American dub of the Digimon anime, which is completely different from the Japanese version in terms of mood and everything else.

Take this of the series for example, which can be viewed on youtube.

Maybe it is because of the relationship of the Digimon and their respective owner is similar to how the pokedex owners treat their pokemon, and how they help their pokemon evolve. I feel that in this episode for example where their digimon evolve to save their owners is kinda like the scene where Poliwrath evolved to save Red in his first battle against Lt. Surge.

Whereas in the last episode for example, it feels similar to the final battle during the Emerald arc, where they defeated the thing that is destroying the battle tower.

Do you guys think that the overall mood of the digimon anime is similar to the mood of Pokespe in many ways? Is there any way to capture such a mood for the pokespe-anime series?

@John
This is not the rigth discussion thread to have this discussion. This thread is for if you have any suggestions to help out with the anime that you want to share with everyone. I don't see anything that your suggesting in this thread. We have a Main General Discussion thread for more general discussion like what you have here.

I do agreed that pokespecial is more similar to the digimon anime thin the pokemon anime.

Wait, so it's EGG=>CAT=>ANGEL-LADY? XD
It always creeped me out, the way they evolved into something unrelated to them in any way, shape or form.
But who cares? That show was okay.

Well, it's important to note that Digimon have many different evolutions to choose from. For example, Greymon is the most powerful evolution of Agumon, but he could also evolve into other things, it just depends on how the Digimon is raised.
But whatever, I'm certainly no expert on Digimon, though it was one of my favorite shows as a kid, I enjoyed the first season the most, and I also liked the second season, but it didn't have the same atmosphere as the first season.

Part of what made the first season so unique was that the trainers were always in the wilderness, once the show strayed from that survival setting, I suddenly found it to be much less interesting, it just didn't feel the same.

lol, We've already had quite the dicussion on the digimon anime (I think it's somewhere in that mess of a social communications thread XD).

Heh, anyway, the mood of the anime reflects the mood of the manga (whatever you interpret that mood to be, lol) since we'll be following the manga very closely. So...um...yeah Smile

What about the background music? One of the few things that makes me enjoy digimon as a kid is that they used a very childlike and innocent tune during all the emotional moments.

This is the tune I am talking about.

Come to think of it, there are some scenes in the manga that almost begs for a evolution sequence. Take the scene when Red and co. attack the Sliph Co. headquarters, and Ivysaur evolved into Venusaur.

This scene in particular

John for the evolution scene are you saying we should do something like digimon?

I do like some of the evolution scene in digimon but not in the first season.
I think it is better if we do the some type of evolution scene that was done in the N64 game Pokemon Snap.

Not necessarily. Pokespe anime might not need the same kind of evolution sequences like what we see in Digimon, but having some sort of evolution theme or showing the evolution of Pokemon in detail would create the same atmosphere we get in the Digimon anime. Especially during crucial battles against Team Rocket for example.

The pokemon anime series featuring Ash and co. has a very causal approach in regards to depicting the evolution of Pokemon most of the time. It just make it seems like Pokemon evolving isn't really important at all, whereas it is quite important in PokeSpe.

Some of the evolution clips from the Pokemon anime :

vs evolution clips from the Digimon anime:

There is a certain element of emotion during the evolution of the digimon that just isn't there in the Pokemon anime.

Having some sort of theme associated with the evolution of Pokemon would be a very nice thing to see in the anime you guys are making, and could help to make the anime memorable for the viewers.

A theme for evolution, I agree, is something to be made, similar to the Digimon anime. I think John has a point that evolution is often key importance in PokeSpe - from RGB right up to DP. I actually can;t think of any evolution scenes in RGB except the Ivysaur one linked to in this thread, and I think some generic epicness music might suit that scene better, but I can think of the more recent DP - on both occasions the dexholders' starter pokémon evolve.

I'm sure there are times it applies to RGB too. Really.
