Accents?
How about using accents, dialects or verbal tics for each region? Doesn't have to be apparent--just for a slight "easter-egg".

Re: Accents?
Just for a surprise theory, there are a lot of languages seen in the manga book. For example: Juan speaks French, the same with Platina. I almost had a theory idea of having the heroes or villains speak Russian, British, Australian, etc.

Re: Accents?
@Pokexpress: That might be a good idea, but it will be hard to find a group of VA all with the same accent. Also, there are some characters that are said to have accents, like Sapphire. I think it will be easier to just keep true to how the characters are, rather than focus on a certain accent.
@Red_the_knight: Maaybe...but if you single out the villains to have a certain accent, unless they LOOK like they could pull of that accent, it might come off as racist to our viewers.

@Pokexpress
This also go into the categories of having are anime in other languages. As of rigth now we need to spent more time on englist sid of things.

Re: Accents?
Certain characters are indicated with accents, bill, sapphire etc I think going with that would make it more fun, but the most important thing is still whether the voice suits the character, me thinksC:

Re: Accents?
I agree with Alexie, if we have villans with certain accents, it might come out racists. Right now, we do need to just focus on whether the voice matches the characters, than go from there.

@Alex & Ama-chan
Okay, just helping.
Pick a certain accent for the characters and see how it turns out. I even did good practice as Maxie to sound like the Emperor from Final Fantasy II.

Re: Accents?
I agree with alex and ama. It could come off as racist.
But, maybe some of the rocket grunts could have some slight accents? Just to add some characteristics?
...although I'm all for the accent thing! (as long as we don't do stuff, like make Archie sound like a pirate. *shivers)

Re: Accents?
Agree.
But can we at least keep the french for Juan & Plantina? I can speak french sometimes, and can do Juan.

Re: Accents?
If there's gonna be an accent it should at least be both intentional and noticeable. Saying British accent is also a little vague, as there are tons of them. Sapphire and Bill yes, will probably have thicker accents than other characters but for minor characters they could have accents as well. I mean farmers/fisherman/hikers could all have accents or at least something definitive of them. Different languages will at least be said as close to their country's accent as possible, like with Platina, as she's meant to be an encyclopedia of knowledge and perfectionism.
But of a random rant there, lol.

Re: Accents?
Like I said, (or maybe not, so I'll say it now)
Its not a matter of picking an accent for a character and sticking to it, its picking the right voice for the right character. Maybe we all listen to someone with an American (lol) accent do the part of, say, Blue, and then we hear maybe a British person do the part too, maybe more people will like the British voice better on blue. It depends on who auditions, and we will take what we get. If we REALLY don't have what we want/need, then we will be pickier.
Of course, as its been mentioned by at least 3 people above, there are characters with accents, so we can not neglect that fact. If a character like Platina can speak French, it doesnt necessarily mean she's gotta have a French accent. If someone with a French accent sounds good with Platina, then so be it. When we get to a character with an accent (or not) we will listen to who auditions for it, and have a popularity vote.
And yeah, some other characters, like minor characters, would be fun to have accents and speech quirks, to add personality and chracteristics.
But like I said, we have to take what we get. We might not get the southern accent we want for farmers, or something like that. We just have to go with the flow and work with what we have.

Re: Accents?
I can't agree with you more, Alexie.
We shouldn't have to weed out auditionees because they didn't do the proper "accent", but rather than work with what we have. ^^

Although this might not meet a lot of support, I feel inclined to point out that languages and accents don't correspond to race, strictly speaking. This is particularly true considering the ethnic diversity of regions like the Americas and Australia. In both cases, besides the diversity, the majority of the population are not the indigenous people of the region.
Similarly, an accent tends to correspond to the location. An Asian or African immigrant to Germany will, most likely, pick up the local accent. With increasing ethnic diversity in many parts of the world these days, you wouldn;t be coming of as racist by posing vcertain character archetypes to have certain accents, particularly since within a race there is diversity in accents - among white Caucasians, there are the accents such as Australian, South African, American, British, Irish, French, German, Swedish, Russian, etc.
But the point made is that using certain accents for certain archetypes could be viewed as discrimination based on national stereotypes (would be viewed as since it would be exactly that :p).
Not that any of that was entirely relevant, nor did anyone care. i just thought I'd point it out :p
And ommggg, we should ahve Archie as a pirate. Like some 1700s British pirate xD
*Cough* Seriously though, using different accents for different regions is a little (if nto very) impractical, and, at risk of repeating what ahs already been said, discretion needs to be used as to what accent could be appropriate based on tha character. And we know some have some accents and, of course, it would be absurd if Lt. Surge had a non-American accent ;D
