Coloring and Mic help?
So, I'm trying to color a webcomic in night time setting, but seem to have issues with what shades to use for dark scenes. I was figuring just shade it like normal and give it an overlay of that deep blue, but yeah it doesn't look right. Is there a tutorial anyone knows of that can help me? I've been experimenting but haven't gotten anywhere.
And for the mic, I just wanted to know what mic the voice team uses normally or any mic in general that's cheap but good. My webcam mic is just annoying and I want to do, yes, auditions, but also recordings for some other projects.

Re: Coloring and Mic help?
I can't help any with the webcomic, but I've been using a Blue Snowball mic and I've been really happy with it. It was about $80, so that might be a little expensive for what you're looking for. The problem with mics is that you often need to spend that much money in order to get a mic, because poor quality mics often have their own internal interference that just makes the recording quality terrible. Here's a thread from Voice Acting Alliance that reviews a bunch of different microphones, so hopefully you can find one thaty fits in your budget.

Alright, I'll wait for coloring assistance, and I don't mind that price, I'll just put 20 away for it each paycheck. I just need one that doesn't make a 'pah' often and yet is clear without making me sound like I'm not in a sound room and isn't oversensitive to yelling or loud noises.

For coloring:
We use a variation of this method for the series. The results are pretty good.

I probably translated badly so here's the original:

Could we have a link to your web comic? ^^
I think you might need a pop filter for your microphone to avoid that "pah".

The "pah" actually comes from your own breath hitting the mic if you're too close to it. I would suggest buying a puff filter to prevent that.
On another note, I feel like this thread should be in the General section...

Thanks, and right now the comic will remain on deviant art. I've been advised to at least have about 10 strips before actually trying to go for a web-comic, but just so friends can see it:

Edit: I'm a little confused with the shift from the grey scale look to the night time look, how exactly do I do that o.x I'm using Paint tool SAI.

Feel free to move it, I wasn't sure where to put it either because I'm not sure what falls under "problems/issues" so I stuck it in here.

Change the "lighting" layer (the add layer above the solid colors) to a dark blue color.Memieko wrote:I'm a little confused with the shift from the grey scale look to the night time look, how exactly do I do that o.x I'm using Paint tool SAI.

Still not understanding how to get it to look natural or right, I'll try some more tomorrow.
I'm just getting lost with the ambient colors, how to combine them and what to do with them.

Hmmm since I'm not even sure what fits under problem and issues section, it's fine for this thread to remain here. >_>;
