Lineart tutorial using SAI Paint Tool

If you want to audition for lineart, please download this file and do the lineart for it.

It's a psd file with 4 layers. We will see your skill to clean up.. And also choose which parts are not moving so you don't have to line them again. Refer to the tutorial. (In the audition file only Red's hand and mouth are moving. So only line the rest of Re's body once, then line the moving parts on separate layer.)

The video is not clear, so look at the picture below to see which tool I used. ^^;


1 - Layer 1 (normal layer)
A normal layer. If you select this layer, normal tools like brush, pencil, etc will appear.

2 - Opacity bar
Changes the transparency of the layer. If 100% the picture is opaque, 50% semi-transparent, etc.

3 - New Vector Layer button
Click this button to make a new vector layer.

4 - Vector Layer
If you select this layer the vector tools will show up. Vector tools are basically for making lines that have points, which you can move, resize, and edit. Basically lines that can move. : D

I will only cover important tools to make lineart.. And everyone knows the eraser right?

5 - Curve Tool
The main tool we will use. It creates lines with uniform width. Click to start a point, and when you click another place, it will form a line. If you move the cursor to another place, the line you just made will form a curve. Double click to stop the line. ..You can understand it better if you try it yourself.

6 - Weight Tool
Change the thickness of a line. E.g. You made a line with 1 px curve tool. Take the weight tool, select 2 px, and click the line. The 1 px line will become thicker.

7 - Pressure Tool
Change the thickness at individual vector points. For the anime, I use this when lining the eyes and cloth folds only.


Tips.
Ctrl + Z to undo mistakes. My best friend. D:
The eye thingy besides each layer is to show if the layer is hidden or unhidden. click the eye to hide a layer, click again to unhide.
Press spacebar to drag the canvas.
Ctrl + Zoom in
Ctrl - Zoom out
Ctrl *click and hold* a point to move it.

Kinda late to respond to this but (I've been meaning to comment but I keep forgetting><) I think this is a very useful tutorial to all pokespe illustrators wannabes; especially those who want to help with lineart. It's a must read for all you aspiring illustrators out there; and to be honest it's pretty simple, provided that you have the free time to do so.

Could I request for this to be stickified? (after so long I'm really surprised that no one commented...) Or maybe be put in the stickies or something in the illustrator auditions, so that auditionees will be able to see it easily. Cos I think not many people will go into the resources part of the forum specifically to realize the existence of such a useful tutorialC:

When I think back at my audition I can't help but think; wow, it's gonna be a year since I joined this project, like in less then a month's time. time really flies huh~

I have mod powers yes but not really useful if I don't really know how to use them, yay8D I'll leave mighty modding to you guys>W<bbb

no ezu it wasn't me... I don't really know how to do it in the first place, so unless I have some kind of psychic power which i don't think i have I didn't. yea....

Update~~
I just noticed there's no audition file in the guidelines. So I made and uploaded one.
It's available here and in the guideline thread. I'll make one for colouring and shading soon.
