Ok, here I go,
Imagine a room with nothing but four enclosing 50 foot high walls, a floor and a ceiling, but there are no doors, and no windows.
How do you get out?

Re: Stump 'Em!
He says 12, the number between the two hands at twelve-o-clock is 6. He says 6, the numbers between the two (on the one side ^ ^ is 3. Thus, I though, 8oclock, number in between the two hands would be 10. But yeah, that makes more sense with the words thing anyway. =PNice try, skystorm! (but numbers on a clock...what was your theory?)

Re: Stump 'Em!
A man lives on the twenty-second floor of an apartment building.
Every day, he takes the elevator down to the first floor, and goes to work.
When he comes back at the end of a day, he takes the elevator to the 16th floor, then exits, and takes the stairs the rest of the way up.
If it was raining however, he takes the elevator all the way up to the twenty-second floor.
Why does he do this?

Re: Stump 'Em!
Because the stairs are on the outside of the building. If he walks upstairs in the rain, he'll get wet.
And he normally gets off on floor 16 because nobody has the desire to walk up 22 flights of stairs, but 6 is good for exercise.

Re: Stump 'Em!
Oh! It took me some time, but I realized what the rain meant.
The man is a midget. As a result, he can't reach the higher buttons on his own, but he can push the buttons with his umbrella. Therefore, on sunny days, when he doesn't have his umbrella handy, he can't reach floor 22 because he can't reach high enough. The highest button he can reach is 16.
Based on this information, I can also tell you how the elevator buttons are arranged, but that's not important to getting the riddle.
How's that?

Re: Stump 'Em!
Okay, here's a tricky one.
Detective Mouri, a detective famous for solving many cases, was staying on a cruise ship as a reward for solving a jewel heist. He was snoozing on the starboard bow in his lawn chair when he spotted a small boat in the distance. On it, someone was waving and jumping frantically. At first, he thought he must be getting too much sun, but the other passengers seemed to notice it too. Being the model citizen he is, Detective Mouri immediately informed the captain.
The ship drew up near the small boat, and the man, sweating from the effort of his signalling and the heat of the day, jumped on board, and refused to tell what had happened until he had been given food and water.
When he was satisfied, he told the captain and detective the story: "My friend Walker and I went out on a boat for a fishing trip. We noticed we were getting caught in the current and pulled too far from shore, so we turned on the motor, but learned we'd forgotten to fill the tank before we left. We went to use the radio to call for help, but it was broken."
"Stuck on the ocean with no way to call for help, we'd been out here for 5 days, and Walker was desperate in thirst. He drank some of the seawater, and that got to his head, and he came after me. He charged at me, and I moved, and he fell down the stairs. I went down carefully to check on him, but he was dead. I've been waiting 2 days since."
The captain immediately sent his crew and a doctor that had been on board the ship, and sure enough, Walker was lying dead at the bottom of the steps in the boat.
The captain was about to offer the man a stay in one of the spare cabins, but Detective Mouri cut him off. "Don't give him anything. This man is lying." He explained why, and the man was escorted out of the room.
How did Detective Mouri know? What really happened?

Re: Stump 'Em!
They were both really desperate. They both drank the water. Something Walker said ticked the man off too much, so he pushed him down the stairs. As soon as he found the cruise ship he needed some fresh water to balance him out.

Re: Stump 'Em!
You are only partially correct. The man is responsible for Walker's death by being pushed down the stairs. However, the rest is wrong.
Also, how did Detective Mouri know?

Oh! I think I got it. You can't drink sea water, the human body can't handle it and it is immediatly spat back out. Therefore, the man couldn't have gone crazy by drinking sea water. I mean, they both might have gone crazy from dehydration beforehand, but he wasn't crazy from drinking sea water.
Right? =]

Re: Stump 'Em!
Nope. The human body can't handle seawater, but he didn't throw it back up.

Re: Stump 'Em!
Mouri didn't know; Shinichi knocked him out
Ah well. All jokes aside, the temperature outside was warm; this causes the body to sweat, meaning that the body loses perspiration MUCH faster than normally. The man said he went without water for FIVE days; this is impossible in the summer, as the human body can't survive more than (as an estimated maximum) THREE days without water in optimal conditions, and the salt concentration in the ocean would have made it impossible for the man to drink much. Therefore, there's a hole in his story; assuming that they had been on the boat for AT MOST 2-3 days, and the body's rigor mortis proved that Walker had been dead for 2 days or so, the man couldn't have gone mad from the seawater after one day; therefore, on the first day they were out, he had planned to kill Walker. However, his dilemma was that he had run out of gasoline after the fact, leading to this predicament.
You know what they say; Only one truth prevails!
... Unless I'm wrong :S Then that was for nothing.

Re: Stump 'Em!
OH! OH! no.
You were definitely on the right track, but someone threw a penny on the tracks and you crashed into the orphanage. Of orphans.
You monster.
There is indeed a "whole" in his story, but that's not it. Think- if they went on a boating trip, they would have packed snacks and water. What is wrong?

Re: Stump 'Em!
Typo point out. Well played, sir.
Ummm... If he hadn't intended to go on a fishing trip, he would have packed no bait nor rods nor snacks for himself as he had intended not to go fishing? Or was it that he had packed for a longer amount of time than was expected?
Really, beyond the whole "Five days without proper water" idea, there weren't too many issues. You know; it probably wasn't a coincidence that there was no radio AND no gasoline. Also, assuming that he had run out of supplies at least 2 days ago and that Walker wouldn't have been drinking seawater if that hadn't been the case, meaning that dude had gone 2 days at least without water. OR, alternately, the man had been PERSPIRING; he had run out of water 2 days ago. He shouldn't have enough fluids to sweat.

Re: Stump 'Em!
You got it on the last one. The man killed Walker for his share of the water, and was sweating when he got on the ship because, unlike if Walter was alive, he'd had something to drink.

Re: Stump 'Em!
On Napoleon's side, in Richard's Court,
In Charlemagne's expansive forts,
I've been a friend to every king,
Yet I am not a crown nor ring,
But here I am, today now dead,
As my dull little brother fights in my stead.
Who am I?

Re: Stump 'Em!
Sorry, but no =P Plus Richard was British... I think.
If no one gets it in two guesses, I'll give you another hint.
EDIT: Kay, been a couple days. Extra hint: Originally, instead of Richard's court, I had written it as Arthur's.
