Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
One of the few defining features about anime is that they tend to make rather extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms, as compared to most western animation.
So I have to ask, would the team be adding all those features in this fan project?

I would assume so. After all, those types of elements are staples in anime.
But of course (what do I know?) better off to get the opinion of a illustration or animation member.

well, it hasn't been discussed yet... But most of the artists here are more influenced by japanese animation as compared to western animation me thinks; so yea. But that's just me saying.

But won't this increase the time required to finish every individual episodes?

Um just to confirm, when you guys talked about adding shading and shadows etc did you mean the regular animation style like this one?

or like this one? with the black shades and shadows all over
https://s302.photobucket.com/albums/nn116/VideoFan9864/?action=view¤t=11135234_p0.jpg
I prefer the 1st one anytime if this is what you guys are talking about.

maybe an example of what you meant would be appropriate john? (like what vid fan did up there) because I may have misconceptions to your query and such.

I think blooms have to do with like really bright light, like when it shines through a window or when the sun's the focus of the scene, etc.

i think if that's the case, we may use them depending on the situation and such. But not necessarily every time yaC:

Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
soooo...blooms are basically...highlights? ^.^;
Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
Er, I think it's more like the "blur" or "glare" kind of effect. Like when there's a really bright light projecting from behind the object, the edges and fringes become sort of unclear, etc.
Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
Picture is worth a thousand words:
The white sky bleeding into the silhouetted cityscape is bloom. The fact that the windows and that billboard are bright enough to bloom is extreme artistic license--you wouldn't see that in a real photo.
Not a common effect in anime--visually, Lain is a weird, weird anime--but it was a severely clichéd effect in video games a few years back.

Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
ooooooh. It would be a good idea, but I don't know how we'd go about it using the software we have. Maybe AfterEffects could make it happen, but I can't see us being able to make it work by just adding a layer for the bloom and manually making it bleed over what we have... but we'd have to do that for every single frame, and a lack of consistency would make it look REALLY weird.
Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
Oh god I just saw a video like this, the ending of TTGL is exactly like that and someone made a PokeSpe version of it, I'll go look on youtube.
Well since I can't find it here's the actual ending:

Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
...it seems the video can't be viewed in Britain. ^^''
Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
Uhg, yeah there's some really stupid copyright for TTGL I can hardly even watch any of them.
I'll just upload it as a private and give you a link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KxjpldG3zY
Now try quick before they license it.

Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
Maaaaaybe you can think of some other kind of example? Either way, with shadows, I'm all for it in some of the more darker scenes, like say, when Red's in Lavender Tower. As for blooms...well we probably won't need them as much. And contrasts, well, Pokespe isn't THAT of a dark manga, more just a dark POKEMON manga. Occasional use of a contrast I can see happening, but it's probably not gonna be a common occurence.
Re: Would the team make extensive use of contrast, shadows and blooms?
Uhg, here are the pictures dangit! xD
The first three are like 2 seconds of flashing photos to show the character, the only color done are to his goggles and the drill around his neck:
Then its a close up of his feet walking:
As he's walking it instantly zooms out(it does not ease to it):
Instant zooms out even further and you begin to se him walking in front of a background:
And here's more of the background:
Anyone who isn't blocked by the license you can comment
I'm also not too fond of this type for PokeSpe, at least, I would think depending on what ending song or theme we use will effect the way we make it.
