Pokemon - the Origin

This is something I figured would peak everybody's interest. It looks like the makers of the anime are making a special based on the original Pokemon Red & Green games. The title of the special:
Pokemon: the Origin

Character designs are based around their current look in the games so far, but nonetheless it looks awesome. Anyone want to give their thoughts?

This is the greatest thing that pokemon have done in a very long time.

I am tootootoo excited for this guys like. Words cannot even begin to describe my excitement. Granted, I have a few minor qualms with it, but they're just that--minor. uvu

Well, feel free to express pros & cons however minor or major they may be.
Also here's a question: who do you think they'll get to voice for the English dub? Will they get fan favourites for returning characters or bring new talent to the table?

Well, I guess I'll divulge into my minor qualms based on what we know thus far about The Origin series. I'm just gunna copy-paste what I posted elsewhere:

"Though I do have two qualms with the anime, though they can be easily retorted…
first, I’m sad that Red’s original design wasn’t used. The emphasis is on Red and Green versions, so I was like holy cow is classic!Red gunna get animated? But I understand why they went with FR/LG: it’s an updated style and feels very modern! Which is cool! I just would’ve loved to see his classic design used… ;_;
Second, it was always to my understanding that in older artwork Red was depicted as having chosen Bulbasaur, and Green Charmander. Now I understand that Charizard was on Red Version’s box and stuff but… ;_; I dunno. That’s also me coming from the angle of paying homage to the original game and original artwork as opposed to FR/LG.
But even then their designs are modified versions of FR/LG. I dunno! owo

The trailer looks good. It's great to see another official Pokemon anime with a different style. Although it looks like Digimon's character designs...

Maybe it's due to it being a collaboration between different studios. The studios involved are
OLM, XEBEC & Production I.G. And according to the ANN, Production I.G has been involved in helping animate the Pokemon series. Here's a list of how they were involved:

So with their previous experience with the show, I'd say we're in for a treat.

OLM seems like a sub-par studio. I think the only thing they've done is Pokemon. Production I.G. always produces great quality feature films (Ghost in the Shell, End of Evangelion, Blood: The last vampire, Namco-Bandai's Tales series) but only when they're in full control of animation. It looks like they are since the trailer looks to be their style. (Thin pencil lines and high use of After Effects) Although the colors and effects seem like OLM stuff. XEBEC... they're just there. Nothing outstanding.

My impression is the special will be intensely mediocre.

It's nice to hear the animation might well be pretty awesome though.

It's a rule that works with the word "origins", "revelations", "beginnings", etc. in the title are going to be awful. Especially if they belong to a popular franchise.

About the ending card, I'm confused it says

Kind of odd how they're using a different seiyuu for Oak, but if his voice is different, we can expect the same for other characters I guess.

So the voice of Red is the person who voices Naruto in... Naruto? That's cool, I guess.

I for one am thrilled to see what they do with this special. Whether or not Origins is any good is up for debate, but just the mere fact that they would dedicate an anime adaption to a generation from 1996 is a pleasant surprise to me; especially after years of the Pokemon franchise spouting out the same humongous content in the mainstream anime. Origins could be a really powerful healing balm for the old fans who feel like they've been pushed aside by writers who know that a sucker is born every minute. Even if Red is being voiced by Naruto.

That is an impressive range. I never would have pictured Naruto and Mokuba with the same voice actor. :O I guess you learn something new every day.

Needless to say, I'm excited to see Origins.

Thoughts?

Green's voice really caught me off-guard. lol I always kind of imagined him as a snooty kid in gameverse. Mostly because he says things like: "Smell ya later!" and the like. It's nice to see that his voice retains that haughty arrogance without being obnoxious.
