Re: Sound Effects
Interesting. I listened to the ones I could online adn here's what i thought:
in general, I thought the sound effects were good and useable but I had some ssues with some of them;
the multiple footsteps sounded like a set of footsteps with a badly failing heartbeat to go with it;
the leaves rustling sounded like a polythene bag to me :S;
I don't get what "grass crunch" is.
I particualarly liked the one of the sets of footsteps (forget which) and the fire sound effects

Re: Sound Effects
i like the exploding water one O: how did you do that?
and some of the files are .wav format.. can you convert them? >w>
but i can hear background noise in some. is there any way you can improve the quality? (i heard you can get rid of bg noise with audacity, but i dont know how. ask kamuro. >.> )
and btw, thanks for doing this~ OwO you're the only person who tried so far i think. >w>

Re: Sound Effects
Well I got them from a couple of sound effect websites by googling them and from a post Kamuro made some time ago. I'll try to convert the .wav ones as well.

Re: Sound Effects
pretty good sound effects stellar, and i really appreciate ur effort;w; Is it possible for you to get some sound effects from the pokemon anime itself? or at least provide the links if you aren't able to rip the sound off. even if the sound has osts inside, i think it should be okay if they aren't too loud (I could try to see if i can remove it as background noise), but preferably without talking and all8D
and everyone, it's best if you everyone else could help us too>w<
eg: pokeball opening sound, pokeball hitting something, walking on grass (since ash travels in forests a lot) pokemon attacks and anything else you guys think could be usefulC:

Ok, I'll try that I've got a DVD of the first season so maybe I could so something with it. Can you give examples of the attacks or sound effects I could rip?

Re: Sound Effects
Iiiiiii don't know if that's such a good idea.
Wouldn't there be copyright concerns with ripping sound straight from the anime? I mean, considering that just by doing this project we're putting ourselves in hot water anyway...
x_o I'm just paranoid is all.

Re: Sound Effects
Nah, I don't think so. We're not ripping the voices, just the effects, which don't entirely belong to them. (right?) and even so, the disclaimer would provide info on what belongs to who.
*whew! ...oh...yeah.
If we were to use pikachu's voice from the anime, we would more likely be sued...cause pikachu's VA is technically on a contract, belonging to the pokemon tv series.
...so, we avoided your sound effect problem Marley, but a new one just risen.

Re: Sound Effects
Wait so if we use a voice actor to voiceact Pikachu we could be sued? How does that work?
Guest- Guest
Re: Sound Effects
No no, I was referring to the fact that people wanted to use pikachu's voice (including me) DIRECTLY from the anime. Now THATS illegal.
Using a fan voice actor to voice pikachu is perfectly fine, of course.
But where will we find a VA who can simulate a pikachu sound?

Re: Sound Effects
I dunno, they may have foley artists to create the sound effects. In that case it would definitely be their property.Mrtweetums wrote:Nah, I don't think so. They may not, but just in case I think it's best we either come up with our own or use (preferably free) pre-recorded ones from the internet.
The whole thing is likely to be their property, and even if it's technically not we'll run a much higher risk of getting slapped with a C&D if we do. It's the kind of negative attention we really don't want to attract... I just don't think it's a good idea.
Anyway, I think I'll try to record some myself once I get back to my mum's house. There's always so much NOISE here. ]x

Re: Sound Effects
Well, as much as how I'd ideally hope for original sound effects, the pokemon anime's are professionally and specifically made for pokemon itself. And the quality and professional aspects would be much better in comparison to recording by oneself and all. (really, finding the right sounds and recording them is such a chore... the same for finding sounds online... okay, at least for me<_<) sounds like opening a pokeball for example, is specially created and not really your everyday sound and all.
to stellar: as mentioned by rain, the list of sound effects are all there in her post above and the topic she linkedC:

@tweet: Wasn't it Chibi who did it really well earlier?
Anyway these sound great (I was thinking about trying to make some homemade ones earlier...that would've been fun, lol)

well, even if we rip off from the anime, it's not going to be that easy to notice anyway. i mean, there's going to be alot of noise, OST, talking..
But I will not agree on ripping Pikachu's voice from the anime. never. >.>

Re: Sound Effects
We're going to have to credit them, though. If we don't, someone's going to notice and we'll be in much, much deeper water. It's inevitable; the sounds are very distinctive and while most people won't be able to tell, someone will, and all it takes is one person to notice.
And when we credit them everyone's going to know anyway.
Sure, it may sound better, but I really don't think it's worth the risk.

Then we need someone to find pokeball opening sound. >.>
but for um, less distinctive sound like smoke, i think it's ok.
not to mention what we're doing now is illegal anyway. <w<

Do you want to be an official sound effects manager? >w> But that means you will have to do a lot of sound effects hunting and ripping. You have to be hardworking. And you'll get Snorlax under your name. : )

Thanks for compiling them up stellar>W< and really appreciate yr work;w; But i still hope that everyone else could follow stellar's example and help us find the sounds too>W< the more the merrier right?
Some of them I find that they are suitable but needs to be lengthened and or that the pitch needs to be changed, i'm still fairly new to audacity and all but I'll see what I can doC: Don't hesitate to help change it too everyone if you have programs like audacity and have to know how to helpCX

Re: Sound Effects
The sounds you have so far are good, but they're in low-quality mono instead of stereo. If you want, when I get the chance this week, I can compile some sounds that are needed for ep. 1 and post them here. They're in stereo, and a bit more preferable for a smoother-sounding production.
Also, what is your guys' plan for sound design? Just putting sounds against clips isn't going to make them sound very realistic; the sound effects will stand out too much.
I'm more than willing to work on building sound environments and ambience for all the different scenes so they'll sound very natural to the ear and will match movements across the screen through the headphones, but that would require having the freedom to place every sound into the animation myself. I have Logic Pro, which is top-of-the-line audio editing software that I use for both sound design and music, so it wouldn't be very difficult at all.
I don't want to be rude or anything, but it's a lot more efficient to have one person with good sound effects doing all the sound design than having a hodgepodge of different sounds from three+ different people...you get to have too much inconsistency with sound quality and the viewer starts to get distracted by it.

There's actually 3 different sounds from that. Don't know which is best. But yeah, I had to run into my bed several times to get that recording. My roommate thought I was nuts. -_-'
