Realistic Pokemon Design.
Okay. Well I saw that we wanted realistic Pokemon sounds, soo I though how about realistic Pokemon designs?
Just look at all the submissions by EDface from DA.
I posted some of the best ones.

Remember, this is only a suggestion. But I only thought this, cause we are aiming for more mature, realistic style. So why not?

A nice idea, but personally I think I'm a fan of keeping with the sugimori style (or Mato or whatever...) Though that's just me, and those were kinda interesting.

O_O
I am now scarred for life. That banette is going to haunt my dreams...
I am NOT drawing pokemon like that, so I don't know what this suggestion is exactly....0o

Re: Realistic Pokemon Design - DENIED
Tell you the truth, I don't care either way. I personally prefer this style, but it's really up to the rest the animators. Either way will look good, so I don't care. It was just a suggestion incase others wanted to see these.whatthechuck3 wrote:A nice idea, but personally I think I'm a fan of keeping with the sugimori style (or Mato or whatever...) Re: Realistic Pokemon Design - DENIED
Definitely wouldn't fit the project at all, even though it's a very cool concept. I remember seeing a "realistic" picture depicting how Giovanni would "take care of" his Mewtwo problem... It was quality art and was interesting in concept, but totally doesn't give the same impression that Pokemon does now, in a more fantasy and cartoonish environment.
So yeah, the project wouldn't be the same at all if we made things too serious. I mean, if you actually thought about the stuff that Team Rocket did in RBY and applied them to a real world setting, the story would not have the charm of a "happy adventure" theme at all. >_>

Well, I never sayd it had to be dark. Real life isn't all that evil. I just suggested real design.Nol wrote:Definitely wouldn't fit the project at all, even though it's a very cool concept. Real life isn't all that evil.
The pokemon world is. Have you ever read some of those pokedex entries? >_>
I just suggested real design.
Yeah, but I can't help but feel that it would be a bit, unsettling to see realistic pokemon fighting.
Like if Arbok did a bite attack, I would be a bit creeped out to see it bite with these kinds of fangs:
http://edface.deviantart.com/art/493-project-arbok-121132069
Or a Beedrill like this trying to sting you:
http://edface.deviantart.com/art/493-project-beedrill-133070199
And battles like this would be a bit more disturbing:
http://edface.deviantart.com/art/VSLewis-DRAGON-MUDFIGHT-143029332
Anyways, I just think I don't want the pokemon to be too detailed to be honest. Like, if I saw a realistic claw, I would expect a realistic wound to come from that. Not to mention it would take more effort to draw.
Re: Realistic Pokemon Design - DENIED
...creepy articuno. (and judging by other's reactions, I don't want to see the rest of them...they're probably really scary. XDD)
well, while this realistic idea is interesting, I'm going to have to agree with everyone. It may be TOo mature and realistic. Sure, the pokespe world is dark (at least darker than the anime), but this may be pushing it.
I think we might be making pokemon too serious with this, drawing in a more hardcore audience (eg. Audiences that enjoy darker shows.) but I do like the art! And it's a nice suggestion! But I'm going to have to agree with everyone else.

Re: Realistic Pokemon Design - DENIED
One can always start another project using those realistic design. I recall that there is a mod project that wants to remake the pokemon game using those concept art and make it a more teenage boys friendly game, like Monster Hunters.
Who knows, someone can even create a fan manga that tries to recreate the pokemon in a more mature tone! It will be nice the different approach taken by people to reconstruct the pokemon world.

Re: Realistic Pokemon Design - DENIED
holy monkies, those are some freaky looking Pokemon. Yeah, that might be a little bit darker than what we're going for. I mean the main characters are 10 year olds (can you say nightmare fuel?). I know the manga is for a slightly older audience, but that's just a little creepy. Also, for the art style we're going for (from what I understand) is more cartoonesque, so realistic Pokemon design-wise or characterization-wise probably wouldn't work...:/
Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Aaaack. O_O
Since we're all making a point to keep Mato's (Yamamoto's down the line) style, it kind of defeats that purpose.
Although I guess it can look kinda cool... it would also be a lot harder to animate than Mato's cartoony style.

Re: Realistic Pokemon Design - DENIED
Well, I get what your all saying, but an Arbok was cut in half in the manga! That was pretty horrifiying. And I know Nol made a good point, but that isn't nessisarily the case.
See there are a lot of cute Pokemon too.

(I included a bunch before, and my post WAS better worded, but my computer didn't post it, so I had to post again, but this time, I could write it as good as before)
Now, I know you has made you decision on this, so I dun think that this topic has any use anymore. Unless, of course, you guys still want to discuss the matter.

Re: Realistic Pokemon Design - DENIED
realistic pokemon are way to complicated to animate, especially for a fanmade project as this. we should always consider the technical aspects of things before jumping into promoting such ideas. and it would be weird to have realistic pokemon when we already decided that mato's style is gonna be used for the arc, which means as similar to the manga's style as possible.
