Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Red is the hardest and final boss trainer other than the elite four (unless it's a sub-quest). Ever since Gold/Silver, he has six with Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Snorlax, & Espeon. In the old game, he's inside the mountain, but on the new Gold/Silver, he's outside on top with hail. I'm going to train my team very hard until I might reach to 80 or higher. I'm one 60 right now.

@Mr007
It is. It's the perfect game with the Pokethon added along with bringing the Battle Frontier back. Getting rematches with not only trainers, but also gymleaders (it's still perfect). But the only thing that bothers me is that they should have done the old school without getting the newer Pokemon in. After I saw Misty getting a Quagsire, I was thinking, "When did she get that?"

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Well this game's gotta be the easiest game to train in. Once you have the leaders phone #'s you can battle them repeatedly. I was able to bump my team up in no time, lol.
Btw, mr007: please stop wasting space by coping older posts...if it's a prank it's not funny, lol. You've already been warned once...

I don;t have an electric move on my team :p I want thunderpunch on my sudowoodo, but frontier is a pain (I used my points to get ice punch instead hehe) and plus, gyara will OHKO my sudowoodo anyways >.<

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
I bought SS because I thought it would have Jigglypuff just like Silver Version did. You can't catch Jigglypuff in SS...
And no it's not my favorite pokemon or anything, I just wanted to catch one for old time's sake.

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Well, you can catch it in the Safari Zone (meadow field, I think) in Soul Silver... and you can get it via the Pokéwalker too... So you can get it.
Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Yeah, turns out us in the non japan area got gypped in the original gold and silver and practically got the opposite version exclusives (not all of them, but several...such as donphan and ursaring). But they didn't reorder them for the rereleases. So i'm stuck ursaringless in my HG...which had me depressed for a while. Not that I don't love Donphan...I just like me an Ursaring every now and then . I had to use a Kangashkan instead....which I'll never do again! (Sorry to anyone who likes Kangaskhan...) But lil Aussie didn't turn out so well...the only member of my team I couldn't level up to at least 80...

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
*revives topic for no good reason*
Finally got to challenging Red with:
Typhlosion 60
Togekiss 60
Gyarados 60
Sudowoodo 60
Butterfree 60
Electrode 61 <-- it was going to be all neat and ncie til my latest battle with Lance's Altaria where i messed up ... Sudowoodo would level up with half exp (exp share was on electrode) so I sent out electrode and switched to get it 2/4 ... but then Electrode leeveled up instead ... the irony being this was not part of my original team, just added to beat Red and cover for the massive issue I had against water types.
Sooo, fairly do-able. Have to keep trying with Butterfree + Quick Claw to put Pikachu to sleep (alternative is to let it volt tackle two pokemon, so he uses a full restore so I have an attack gap) so that I can switch to gyarados and OHKO with earthquake. The rest is more variable ... Venusaur cna be hurt bad by Butterfree, Togekiss Typhlosion or Gyarados. Charizard by Sudowoodo, Gyarados or Electrode. Blastoise and Lapras by Electrode. Snorlax by low kicking with Sudowoodo. Only had time to try once and lost because Snorlax blizzarded a crit hit twice in a row and I messed up my light screening >.<
I think Lance the first and second times were harder, because I didn;t have an electric pokemon for Gyara, so had to use my own gyarados to fight his O.O And that garchomp can still OHKO all my pokemon with Outrage unless I get it with intimidate first.

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Harder than I thought >.<
Lapras cna 2HKO Electrode with Body Slam, and even with light screen up, it will 2HKO Togekiss with blizzard and Sudowoodo will go down fast to either blizzard or brine, and those are the pokemon with the supereffective moves. I had to drain his PP of blizzard, then use some mix of aura spheres and air slashes and hope to get him to that HP where one more aura sphere would KO him, but he wouldn't use a full restore. Usually, I would critical hitted before this and everything would be messed up. One time i even knocked him down to tiny HP three times >.< That Lapras may be his lowest level, but it cna take hits, and it's strong, and it's immune to the hail
But I beat him noww ... I'm kinda caught up :p

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
The reason why Lapras is immune to Hail is because all Ice types are not affected by Hail. Lapras is both ice & water. I suggest using Electric & Fighting to take down a Lapras unless you plan to use Drain Punch. I think I'll raise my Pokemon of 70-85 will help beat Red unless I need a hell lot of Revives, Max Potions, Full Restore, & a hell lot of berries.
Togekiss is fine, but no match against Lapras. I suggest using Togekiss against Venusaur unless you have enough speed.

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Togekiss level 60 takes two hits of blizzard to be KOd once light screen is in place and stands firm against everything else for a couple of hits even without light screen. Just gotta watch out if he lfinches, then hail chops HP just below half, then briine >.<
Anyway, Red is fairly doable with level 60s, as long as you have a few revives and full restores handy ... and some half decent tactics.

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Maybe she had no moon stones? XDDD
I remember my Red match. My base level was 50s, but...my typhlosion was in the 75s. And if you think that it's easier than it sounds...you would be wrong.
I beat his last pokemon by spamming potions on typhlosion, while red's charzard was pelted with hail.
...I know.

My Red match...urm...I think I was mid 70s...and I beat him fairly easily. Such is the way...
Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
It sounds like we're trying to do our best to beat Red. But the most annoying battle is fighting the Frontier Brains in Emerald for Generation III, and Platinum to HG/SS in Generation IV.
How's this for my team:
Meganium (Seed Bomb, Stone Edge, Rock Climb, & Synthesis)
Arcanine (Thunder Fang, Crunch, Flamethrower, & Extremespeed/Earthquake)
Gyarados (Thunderbolt, Waterfall, Surf, & Ice Fang)
Togekiss (Extrasensory, Aura Sphere, Wish, & Shock Wave)
Ampharos (Discharge, Power Gem, Signal Beam, & Flash)
Dragonite (Thunderpunch, Outrage, Fly, & Extremespeed)
There are cleaver moves and tricks to try and pull out the element of surprise, like how I remember Milotic using Ice Beam against a Grass type.

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Lots of pokemon I don't know a ton about
I think no Air SLash on Togekiss is no good, and I'd lose thunderbolt or surf for earthquake on gyarados, with Dragon Dance being a good idea too. Oh, and idk about Arcanine, but if it can learn Flare Blitz, that would be good. But it's an awesome team overall, although gotta watch out for them ice types (not that there are loads of them or anything, but still).

Re: HG-SS Progress/Update thread
Not bad, huh? I was getting annoyed on my opponents pulling the element of surprise on me. If you think that's almost good, you should check out the intense battle strategy again opponents and Pokemon that can easily learn. If you remember about Stantler trying to learn Drain Punch, I was false. I thought maybe if Stantler did learn Drain Punch, then I would pull an upper punch against Fighting Pokemon, Rock types, Steel types, & Ice types. But I'll settle with Earthquake, but since my Stantler is only reliable to SP. ATK, I have to teach him Hypnosis, Dream Eater, Earthquake, & Confuse Ray.
Already? You're fast.
