Re: Social communications thread
Ezu! At a time when I had no time to do anything else, the warriors books took over my being. XD After about 20-30 something books I've grown a tad bored of them (there's only so much you can do with em) but I guarantee you will like them until you get bored of em, if you get what I mean.
Mylo, omg did I love the Dark Materials! I was so disappointed by the movie. :'C

Re: Social communications thread
Well, the movie was pretty terrible.
I only just realized there was an actual "warrior cats"-series. At first mention, it made me think of Thunder-cats.
Anyone read the series "Monarchies of God"? I've been told that it should be my next project, but I don't know all that much about it.

The Golden Compass movie was absolutely terrible it's a way too rushed and I just hated Lyra's actor.

the first of the Dark Chronicles series is called The Golden Compass. C:
But I think you're right Razor. It probably did have some odd name.

The american name is Golden Compass and Northern Lights is what it's called everywhere else. But they used Golden Compass for the movie. Or are you talking about the alethiometer?

By the way, anyone know the Warrior Cats series? O: I kinda want to give it a try.

Ah, thanx everyone! I'll give all of them a try!
I'm trying to read hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, but I think the movie wrekced it. People are always telling me the book is superior to the movie, but I don't know. *you may begin a rant at anytime
I read some of the suggestions before! Warriors is some good stuff. A lot of these books I've already read or heard of! Glad to see we all kinda have the same taste in books!

Im interested in the darren shan series about the demonata. Its a horror gorey like one but he describes it well and builds suspense. I havent finished the series yet but the first seven books are brilliant. Id recommend it to anyone(As long as your not light hearted)

Re: Social communications thread
The movie was good in its own right, but the biggest problem I had with it was the overplayed romance between Arthur and Trillian. It just WASN'T that way in the book. However I got to gawk at Zooey Deschanel so I kept my trap shut </shot> Still, it was No Just No having read the book. If I remember correctly Arthur fancied a different lady, but my memory could be faulty.
It did draw on some aspects from the old radio show, which accounts for some of the inconsistencies.
Also, there are four books in the trilogy that didn't get made into movies. And they're delightful books.

Re: Social communications thread
But didn't it have an "unfinished" conclusion?
Eion Colfer wrote another book to finish the series. "and another thing" was the title. Is that book any good?
Hotrod: horror things aren't really my forte...I don't even like scary movies (much to my friends distastes)

Re: Social communications thread
I find it easier to read horror stories. I was meant to watch a horror movie the other day but put it off. Dont really like watchin movies coz it builds up to much suspense which scares u more. Books however, give you the image of wat is happening while u know it can't come true coz its just words on a page. Movies however show u wats happening and ur brain makes u think that he/she is real. Either way i found horror books interesting and thats my own taste. Horror movies? No way in hell. Except for the Scary Movie franchise. They make scary stuff comedic which lightens the mood.

Re: Social communications thread
I haven't read And Another Thing, mainly because I haven't been able to afford it... my boyfriend has it, though; I'm rereading the series in the meantime because somehow I managed to end up last on the borrowing list (okay, it's because I'm a slow reader...).
But those I know who have read it say it's good. I'm just refraining from considering it a part of the trilogy until I read it. I just don't know yet.
The movie... I haven't seen it in a while (well that's a lie. I saw it a few weeks ago, but I was half-asleep), but if I remember correctly it ended with the characters mentioning the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, which could have been a sequel hook if they were planning to make another movie... which they didn't. Either way it was more of an afterthought than anything else; the movie wrapped up rather nicely, I think.

Re: Social communications thread
Hm...I've been reading some OEL manga lately. Very few are decent (and I mean few, but I'd recommend Dramacon, Nightschool, and Aoi House. I've been reading the manga version of Maximum Ride too, but I'm not sure how much of it is thought out and how much is randomly pulled out of his ass.

Re: Social communications thread
Oh! I've always had a love for Dramacon. I own all 3. <3
Lesse... I've read a lot of manga, but it might be easiest to start with the ones I own. (a collection that took me quite a few years to build up ;3)
Sailor Moon
Kamichama Karin
Cardcaptor Sakura
Full Moon wo Sageshite (can't live without it)
Dramacon
Kodocha ( <3 <3 <3)
Pita-ten
Ion
Stray Little Devil
We Were There (<3)
Wild Ones
Maid-Chama (can't remember the full name >>)
Train Man
Fruits Basket
Ultra Maniac (<3)
Beauty Pop
Shin-Chan
Gentlemen's Alliance
Ouran High School Host Club
Collar Free Kingdoms (so adorable... >w<)
Dragonball
Love Punch
... there's a couple (like five or six) more but they're all at home, and I'm here at college. XD lulz, i have a surplus of shojo, and besides the obvious reasons, it's probably due mostly to the fact that there isn't a lot of shojo anime out there to ruin the plot for me. >w>
I've read Bleach, Nauto, Fulmetal Alchemist, Dragonball, One Piece, Red River(ooooh! that's a good one), and dozens of others...
Anime: Elfen Lied (own, LOVE IT-- IT'S A MUST SEE), pretty much every big film by Miyazaki except Porco Rosso, Fruits Basket (good, but not as splendid as the manga), FLCL (OoO), Fullmetal Alchemist, Pokemon (my religion, jk lol), Shin-Chan, Tenchi-Muyo (nostalgic, no?), Kodocha (got me hooked on the manga), Ouran High School Host Club(which I love more than the manga), Cardcaptor Sakura, Kimba (not a lot of it ;n;), Zatch Bell, Zoids, Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress (the soundtrack is astounding), Digimon.... oh man I will remember more as soon as I send this post XD

That series was pretty terrible. The ending was the worst thing about it. His first series (the saga of Darren Shan) was significantly better.
How about Garth Nix's Keys to the Kingdom series? (even if we're talking about manga now :S)
And manga: my favourite manga is definitely One Piece ... cuz it's about pirates and all that jazz :p Though there's plenty more i like and loads more I wanna read but time is limited D:
