Re: Social communications thread
OMG Razor don't even XD
That's an interesting theory Tweets. I definitely thing it's something that Nintendo would pull, although I've always noticed that a lot of the "god/legendary' pokemon vary in strength. For example, you have Ho-oh and Lugia, but I always got the feeling they could be beat easily by, say, Mewtwo (which would be an interesting fight) but Lugia single-handily (wingidly?) defeated all three of the birds (Zapdos, Articuno, Moltress) in the movie, granted with Ash's help, but still.
And I just realized you guys are gonna punch me for mentioning the anime. XD But it's true! Although I agree with you that it would be tough to top something like Arceus-- even for Mato!

Damn you, Ash ketchum!
Y'know, for a guy who'se seen almost every legendary pokemon, Ash still seems surprised when he meets a new one. You'd think after 5(?) years of crazy crap happening to him, he'd need a shrink.
Anyhoo, I wanna see a Satan pokemon!! (*shot by a priest*)

Mylo: yep. Someone stole zeus' bolt, ergo the name: the lightning thief.
Dirksies: they didn't even mention Kronos? Did they at least mention Luke?
Dirksies: wait...15 years? But I'm...younger then that. And I remembered watching holiday hijynx (the now banned pokemon episode) on cable tv.
So...what's with that?

Going by Bulbapedia here, but the Holiday Hi-Jinx ep was aired December 11, 1999. The series first aired September 8, 1998 in the US. That's like 12 years. Maybe 11 if you want to argue that it aired in September and all. I was rounding up, up, but you get the point. ;3

Luke was actually the main villian in the movie. Kronos was only mentioned once in passing. Hades was the one who apparently wanted to start a war in order to usurp his brothers....ugh *head-desk*

how do they expect to start a franchise (which they obviously plan to do judging by the colon) if they mess up the story?

Re: Social communications thread
No. Absolutely not true. The gods would punish humans as retribution against other gods. The god Nemesis only had one job; to punish humans when they broke a rule forced upon them by the gods.dirksies wrote:Anyway, a titan would be interesting. Gods kinda imply a somewhat empathetic connection to humans (atleast in the Greek Mythology sense),
I don't think Chronos or Atlas had anything against the humans. I actually think that most of the titans really didn't care about the humans.whereas the Titans, though not necessarily vehicles of complete destruction, did not like humans, and, I guess in this instance, Pokemon.
You could also call several of the other legendaries "titans", I mean Groudon and Kyogre are prime examples, since they really didn't care about human or pokemon either. They simply wanted to battle each other.[...]So, a Titan could work, but that purpose might have already been filled by Arceaus, if it doesn't feel any connections to humans and Pokemon and basically wanted to destroy the world.

I really don't want to talk about the Greek mythology's family tree. I'd be breaking the NSFW-rule.

I know! Like I said, they screwed themselves over for any type of plot, at least if it's based on the books

I meant empathetic in the sense that they noticed hmans. Gods atleast took the time of day to even care about humans, in the detached sort of unfeeling way that they did *shrug*, titans just didn't care about humans at all. Doesn't one of the origin myths say that Titans used the world as their playground and it wasn't until the gods took over that the land became habitable for people?
Mylodon wrote:You could also call several of the other legendaries "titans", I mean Groudon and Kyogre are prime examples, since they really didn't care about human or pokemon either. They simply wanted to battle each other.
Like I said, I'm not entirely sure how the Titan idea would work. Their primary job, at least in relation to humans and Pokemon seems to be fulfilled by some of the other legendaries. Not to mention Pokemon is somewhat based on Japanese mythology (not that I know anything about Japanese mythology *shot*), so it might be a little awkward to mush together the two

Yay percy jackson!
Anyway...on topic...does his thread even have a topic? erm....What's your Dream team for Pokemon? Any generation sans legendaries.

Re: Social communications thread
pokemon uses japanese mythology?O_O Someone enlighten me on that please... I know both beyblade and digimon makes use of that myth (the four sacred beasts, the blue/green dragon (It's often translated as being blue even tho the word "qing" is a kind of green. Guess there's always confusion between translations for blue and green eh? Although in both digimon and beyblade's case the colour was blue for the beasts) , the phoenix, the white tiger and the tortoise.), But so far I don't recall pokemon using it... Or did I miss something out<A<;;;
And to be honest I'm quite surprised that pokemon haven't touched on that yet... It's as though they are missing out that myth out on purpose...

Re: Social communications thread
Yeah, that was kinda a stab in the dark in my part. I don't know enough about Japanes mythology to even begin guessing what they might be referencing *ignorant*. That is interesting that they have avoided drawing from any specific culture. Maybe they are trying to universal or just unique so nobody feels too awkward or left out? *shot*
Because they haven't been drawing from any specific culture, that does put more doubt on the Titan theory, though...

Re: Social communications thread
It's true Dirks, but I'd prefer to draw lines between the titans and chaos, and the gods and order, neither being more or less kind towards humans.
Quite frankly, I don't think any mythology should decide what pokemon should come next. Also, there are too many legendaries as it is, there shouldn't be any new ones in the next generation.
Also, I know for a fact that Jynx and Raikou are from Japanese folk lore.

Re: Social communications thread
Well its most likely a given that there will be some legendaries, pokemon's always been pretty good about keeping tradition, otherwise we might be playing a full 3D adventure right now (not counting the colloseum games which were anything but). I just hope that they don't go crazy with them like they did in the last generation....
Wow, last generation....it seems like just yesterday I was scouring bulbapedia to get a glimpse of the next gen pokemon before the game even hit japanese stores....how time flies.
